The Celebration of Herbs: The Use of Herbal
What is Holistic?
Holistic health is about promoting a healthy lifestyle by taking into consideration the body, mind and soul when looking at one’s overall health.
BODY: The word body is used to describe not only, our outward appearance, skin and hair but also our inner person. Some people exercise and eat right but sometimes neglect the other important areas of their body. Exercising and eating a balanced diet is great however, what we put on our bodies matter too. Theguardian.com states: Between cosmetics, perfumes, personal care products and feminine hygiene products, women in the US apply an average of 168 chemicals to their faces and bodies every day, according to new research by the nonprofit Environmental Working Group. Some are completely harmless but others can be toxic.” It is important to know what we are putting on and in our bodies.
MIND: How is your mind involved? Positive thinking, healthy self talk, and having a peaceful mindset all help you become as healthy as you can be as an individual. How we view situations and react to them have an effect on our health. Taking care of ourselves is not just a physical journey but also a mental one. In this journey our own self expectations matter. The Mayo Clinic reports: “Positive thinking helps with stress management and can even improve health. Practice overcoming negative self-talk.”
SOUL: The combination of our mind, bodies and all aspects of life that affect these, are what we refer to as Soul or the person in their entirety. Ingredients that are used to prepare our foods, products we put on our body and positive or negative surroundings in our environment all affect us in some way. But let’s face it, we can’t avoid everything that can harm us but let’s take charge in what we can. We welcome you on our journey to living an overall healthy lifestyle. We will learn and build on our knowledge together. Take the Holistic challenge, set aside time to care for your total being. The idea of living a Holistic lifestyle may seem like a burden but it doesn’t need to be complex.
