Fall is the time to safeguard our energy, strengthen our immunity, and heatup our internal fire. Like the plants that shed their leaves and retreat into the soil to absorb nutrients, we too need to fortify our souls to make it through the cold seasons and arise restored and revived in the spring.

Surprisingly most of what is needed can be found in your kitchen. You can nourish yourself with Adaptogenic Soups and Stews. This may seem to be too simple of a remedy, but any herbalist will assure you, nutrient-rich broths, porridges, soups, and stews are easy on digestion and offer simple sustenance in cooler times. They’re an amazing instrument for herbal medicines that will support digestion with warming aromatic spices.

Spices are perhaps some of the most underrated herbs. Many folks don’t see spices as herbal medicine, but the method is all in the dose. Using a little more of these warming spices during the day throughout the winter months can give you extra herbal benefits, including circulatory and digestive system support. Some of my fall preferences are cayenne, cinnamon, ginger, and turmeric. Try combining turmeric infused in a warm breakfast cereal with astragalus to pep up your immune system ahead of the winter season.

One way to inculcate these powerful herbs is to sip on medicinal teas and tonics, I am evidently biased towards teas, but it’s one of the best ways to take herbal medicine. Teas are easy to make and are quickly absorbed by the body.
